Today marks the winter solstice. Scientifically this means today is the day that has the shortest amount of sunlight during the year. To primitive man though, this meant that all those days of praying to the sun that it would get warm again and it would give more light again finally payed off. Nowadays we know better but still mark this time of year with all kinds of religious and festive holidays. To me though, it’s just nice to finally have the long dark over and be happy about each day getting a little bit longer than the next. It’s also nice to know that I no longer live in a world where I have been taught to be afraid that…the sign might not come out tomorrow unless I pray to a deity. Science. Live it.
