The theme of the original Middaugh.org site was lighthouses. What is it that some people find so utterly annoyingly fascinating about them?

They harken back to a time when the world was a big open place with so many uncharted areas, they also stand as a beacon to show that you have reached a safe port of call.

And of course being a sort of strange thinker myself, I see them as a symbol of the human races willingness to chart the unkown. I can almost imagine a thousand years from now, somebody out on a small ship or asteroid serving as a beacon to a great starship finding its way back home to Earth after a long journey. The caretakers of this interstellar lighthouse hanging a picture of an old 2nd milllenium seafaring lighthouse on its wall to remind them of our need to conquer the unknown.

Although Nancy and I don't kill ourselves visiting lighthouses, (ok we did get married at one) we do try to see any that we can on our travels.

Have a look at these great NJ Lighthouses, history that still stands today.

A certain point of view...
While we both find lighthouses very interesting, our take on them is a bit different. Nancy will not go anything above about 25', and I feel if I took the journey out here to see it, I best be able to get to the top. As you can see from the picture on the right she has a tendency to get a wee bit nervous up high. I will give her credit for sparking the interest in these lighthouse journeys that we take.
